Curtea de Argeș Monastery, founded by Neagoe Basarab, is an impressive building, both architecturally and in terms of interior paintings.
Built on the site of the former Mitropolis of Wallachia, founded by Vlad Tepes in the 15th century, the Curtea de Argeș Monastery now houses the necropolis of the Royal Family of Romania, as well as the relics of several saints. King Charles I and Queen Elizabeth, King Ferdinand and Queen Mary still watch over Romania from here, and King Michael I is now with them.
The construction of the monastery was entrusted to a skilful craftsman, whose memory is linked to one of the most famous Romanian legends – the Legend of Master Manole
The French architect Andre Lecomte du Nouy, in the second half of the 19th century, contributed to the current shape of the monastery, but decided to modify part of the original interior frescoes, thus spoiling its artistic and historical value.
Through a 1000-piece puzzle, you can closely admire the fascinating architectural details of the Curtea de Argeș Monastery and piece by piece compose a panoramic image of the monastery and its surrounding park

Did you know
The successful construction of the beautiful monastery has, unfortunately, not a very happy foundation, but rather a bloody one, founded on sacrifice and vanity.
Sacrifice, because Manole was able to complete the work only after having offered an offering and built his wife, Ana, within the walls of the monastery, and vanity, because at the end of the work the ruler ordered the scaffolding to be removed, leaving the craftsmen on the roof, so that he would not erect another building as large and beautiful as this one. The craftsmen, including Manole, in an attempt to save themselves, built shingle wings and threw themselves off the roof in the hope of being able to fly
Manole’s fountain, near the monastery walls, is said to have appeared where Manole died, falling from the roof
Inside the monastery is a Gospel written in gold letters by Queen Elizabeth of Romania herself
