The figure of the bride in the painting is Makovsky’s wife.
In his painting, the artist accurately reproduces historical elements in his work: the clothes, furniture, accessories and decor in general are typical of a Russian wedding in the 17th century
He died in 1915 in a tram accident in St Petersburg.
